Crossing The Line

  • Wonboyn Village 31 Nadgee Rd Wonboyn, NSW, 2551 Australia (map)

Explore the Nadgee-Howe Wilderness from Mallacoota in Victoria to Wonboyn in New South Wales.

This adventure will suit fit people with quality gear and recent multi-night hiking experience. Over 4 days, we travel 60 kilometers through untouched coastal wilderness in Croajingolong National Park and Nadgee Nature Reserve. We'll camp at undeveloped clearings near coastal lakes and beaches and carry all equipment and supplies in our packs.

In an environment of remote beaches, rugged coastline, tranquil lagoons and shifting sand dunes, we’ll cross from Victoria into New South Wales along our route.

Look for seabirds including short-tailed shearwaters, sooty oystercatchers, hooded plovers and gannets. Pods of dolphins often mingle along the beaches and whales can sometimes be seen making their annual migration.

There are challenges too, including long sections of hiking through deep, soft sand and tall sand dunes. Snakes and ticks feature regularly in trip reports and a lack of fresh drinking water can be a significant issue.

A mix of awesome natural beauty and a test of skills, fitness and determination, this will be a memorable trip where you will need your camera close at hand.

Participants will use Thursday 29 September to travel to Wonboyn NSW. Our charter bus departs Wonboyn at 5:30pm for Mallacoota, where we stay overnight at a commercial campground.

Friday morning, we board a charter boat to cross Mallacoota Inlet and start 4 days and 3 nights northbound on the Nadgee Wilderness Walk, returning to Wonboyn (and our vehicles) on Monday 4 October in the afternoon.
