Scrubbers Hump

  • Dunphys Camping Area Bellbird Ridge Firetrail Megalong Valley, NSW, 2785 Australia (map)

A full day exploring along Breakfast Creek and Ironmonger Hill at the edge of the Wild Dog Mountains.

This day will suit people with good fitness who have done recent long walks in preparation. We walk around 14 kilometres in Blue Mountains National Park with lunch along our route. The day includes steep ascents and descents on roughly formed walking track and rock hopping along creek beds.

This day will NOT suit people brand new to bushwalking or those who have not walked a similar 14 kilometre distance recently.

We start and finish at Dunphys Camping Area at the end of Megalong Valley Road, ready to depart on foot at 10:30am sharp. We hike a circuit of 14 kilometres, down Breakfast Creek to Coxs River, then climb Ironmonger Hill and Ironpot Mountain, before returning to Dunphys Camping Area in the afternoon.

There is no public transport to Dunphys Camping Area, so arrange a seat in someone’s car before joining the trip. People with vehicles might offer to collect you from Blackheath Station on the way past. See this link for location info: https://goo.gl/G1rq7X
